As Windows 10 continues to modernize the operating system, support for such older hardware technology as optical drives is becoming increasingly spotty. This is unfortunate since many users still depend on CDs and DVDs.
It’s not unusual for your optical drive to be working just fine in a previous version of Windows or Windows 10, then the minute you upgrade to a new version, it stops working.
The first thing you can do is check Windows Update then install the latest drivers if there are any.
This can be a result of a combination of factors: corrupt driver, out of date firmware, or a factory defect.
Before you throw out your DVD drive and get a new one, here is a look at some troubleshooting steps you can try to get it working again.
"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. (Code 39)" Because of this error, the drive did not show up in My Computer and the customer was unable to burn CDs or read any CDs.
I uninstalled the drive from Device Manager, rebooted the computer, and the problem remained, so obviously it appeared to be a registry issue that I would have to solve.Firstly, through the method of System Restore, the system can be restored to the date when the changes were made that created the missing drive.Secondly, the drivers can be removed and then reinstalled. For example, Microsoft released updates for the Windows 10 Anniversary Update and version 1511 that resolved problems with optical drives. After upgrading to Windows 10, the other devices are working perfectly. 3) Right click the first option ATA Channel 0 and choose Uninstall. 5) Still, repeat if you have more options under IDE/ ATAPI controllers category. Or you could press the Scan button on the top of the panel and let the system Scan for hardware changes for you.But out of the blue, you could not find the DVD drive option in This PC (Windows 10 OS) window like the following screen shot. You can’t even see the DVD/CD-ROM drives option when you choose to Show hidden devices. 7) Your computer will be able to help you with the detection of the DVD for Windows 10.
